5 reasons why I love Singapore

and for me, it’s not Food. Hear from someone who moved there.

I had my first visit to Singapore back in 2019 as part of a design workshop at Grab. It was the first country I was visiting outside India. And I was amazed by everything about it. Recently, I had the chance to move there as part of an internal transfer, something I had wanted for a long time.

Here are some of the reasons why I love Singapore:

Safety

I found it really shocking that people were reserving their tables using their phones. People are completely carefree in public areas, even with their children.

While shocking, I found it a lovely thing to be a part of. Because, at some level, you do want the place you are in to be a safe haven for you and your family.

Discipline

Singapore has rules in place to ensure a clean and safe living environment for everyone. Each rule has a history associated with it.

People often frown when they hear that chewing gum in public is not allowed. But it came in place to reduce cost of cleaning public places and ensure a much better experience for everyone.

Inclusive Culture

Singapore does not ask you to change yourself into someone else. Unlike Western countries with a significant indigenous population, Singapore has evolved as an amalgamation of immigrants from a wide variety of cultures, including Chinese, Malay, and Indian, to name a few.

This diversity ensures that you do not need to bend yourself to adapt to the social norms of living. In fact, it’s the diversity of people with their unique perspectives that gives Singapore an advantage in bringing together a wide range of talents to create something remarkable.

Cleanliness and Beauty

Due to its emphasis on enforcing the rules and punishments, if those are not followed, Singapore has been able to keep up the top spot in the world in terms of cleanliness.

It boasts several beautiful places such as Gardens by the Bay, the Changi Airport, the canals in Singapore and Cloud Forest Dome.

Huge emphasis on human resources

The primary natural resource in Singapore is its human population. This has led to a constant focus on investing in education, technology and new businesses. These tie in to provide a good contribution to the society as a whole, which in my opinion, contributes to one’s level of fulfilment.

Now, I do agree that Singapore has its own set of challenges as well, such as the rising cost of living, which varies from country to country. However, it is still one of the best places I have visited up until now, due to the factors mentioned above!
